Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, June 25, 2007 - 9:31 PMI recall Santa Barbara is lovely in the fall... I think I'll skip Shoreline altogether and hereby declare... ROAD TRIP !! -
-
Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Wed, June 27, 2007 - 3:15 PMKinda bummed that the Shoreline show is with a bunch of other bands... I've never seen The Cure live before and would love to go to a solo concert instead! Hopefully they'll add more Bay Area shows :) -
-
Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Wed, June 27, 2007 - 4:03 PMThe Santa Barbara Bowl is a really nice venue. I think I'll hit both the Santa Barbara and the Hollywood Bowl. Yay! :)

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Thu, June 28, 2007 - 11:09 AMI've never seen The Cure live before and would love to go to a solo concert instead!
Trust me, you'll be more than glad you followed your instinct if you do. Festival shows are short, and basically an extended greatest hits medley. Full shows are 3 hours of epic fucking drama.
> Hopefully they'll add more Bay Area shows :)
I really doubt it. If you look at the schedule, it's theoretically possible they could play the next night as well, but I'll bet that there's no way that Shoreline could host a show the next night since the festival cleanup and load out will be insane. So that leaves the other BA venues like the Shark Tank, Cow Palace, Fillmore, SBC Park, Coliseum, Concord Pavilion, etc. Most of these will already be booked for that night, so save up a few bucks and take a trip to Santa Barbara with us!
Now just pray that the new album is worth traveling to hear.
Ross Robinson, rot in hell. -

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Sat, June 30, 2007 - 7:42 PMHere's the Cure tour website showing the last time they were in SF; the Curiosa Festival, set list, ticket stub, poster, etc. It was a great concert. For me, 18 years since I'd seen them. Also I used the ticket stub to get in to my first New Wave City. I'd like to see them again, and could go late to see The Cure and maybe one band before them. . I haven't been to the Shoreline since it opened about 20 years ago. What's it like? How's parking? Also here's an interesting Wikipedia story about the infamous methane fire when it first opened.

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 2, 2007 - 12:44 PM> the Curiosa Festival, set list, ticket stub, poster, etc. It was a great concert.
It was. (Aside from the dreadful new material, which souded MUCH better live than on record, but still... not the pinnacle of their achievment, to say the least) And the supporting bands were downright superb. Very different from what I'd expect at Download though. (short sets)
> What's it like?
It blows unless you have GREAT seats. Which is very difficult to achieve for a variety of reasons. Don't even bother with the lawn. BuyTrilogy, rent a projector, and invite your friends over instead. You'll have a better time for less money
> How's parking?
Plentiful, but a long hike to the venue. But don't worry, since you can't bring any open container or anything larger than a very small cooler, you won't be carrying much.
On the plus side, it smells much better than it used to, being a municipal dump capped off and planted with grass. And sunsets/dusk there can be mesmerizing.
Santa Barbara sounds better all the time.

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 2, 2007 - 7:00 PMThanks for the info Embe... I'll try for good seats and see what I can get, unless it's too expensive. Bottom line-three years since I last heard them live, and it's a Sat. night. I get a fairly regular fix from "Japanese Baby".

Thu, July 19, 2007 - 1:22 PMThe pre-sale wouldn't let me buy the best seats and I'll try my luck Sun. The closest was: 203-J, or 201-lL&N. -

Sun, July 22, 2007 - 10:51 PMGrrrr... Missed the presale for the Santa Barbara bowl. Ordered to tix anyways. Crappy seats, nice venue. Tomorrow at 10AM presale for Hollywood Bowl. My alarm is set.

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 23, 2007 - 8:43 AMAlright kids. I've got the presale code for the Hollywood Bowl. 9SRXDE. They go on sale at 10AM today. Got some info from other presale fans who say crappy seats may pop up at first, but keep on trying and trying. Most got lucky with the ground floor after quite a few attempts. Also if you don't already have a ticketmaster account, create one, put your credit card info and all that in so your ready to go. Good luck! -
-
Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 23, 2007 - 8:47 AMAh! One more tip. Apparently it's much eaiser to get the floor if you only purchase 1 ticket at a time. -
-
Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 23, 2007 - 5:45 PMSo-what did you end up with? -
-
Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 23, 2007 - 8:32 PMWell. After talking my(computer illiterate) Mom through ticket master around 9AM, We practiced a few times so she would have it down come 10AM. 10AM comes and we got the phones to our ear, it's sheer chaos because anytime I feel rushed, i fumble shit up. I don't get this BS with only selling 1 ticket at a time. I was still confused thinking the Garden boxes were on the floor, then there wasn't a floor, then some peeps got pool tickets. It was all rather stressful. I did however end up with a reallly really good seat Garden Box 72 Row 3. $135 The only problem is it's just little ole me. Hope to have some hardcore cool Cure fans such as myself.
As for the Santa Barbara Bowl, I got two pairs of tix on a paniced whim because I missed that presale. SEC F, row R, seats 57-59) coming to a total of $189. I'm looking to see those at face value because in an early morning rage of "Why can't I ever get the floor!! Just once! I hate being squished like that, but just once!!!!" I said fuck it, let these code stealing ticketmaster e-bay whores rape me, because in the end, I still get to see Mr. Smith up close for the first time ever!!!! -

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Mon, July 23, 2007 - 11:27 PMYes, it was all super annoying and the internet fan-club presale no longer means good seats - it's no different then buying them when they go on sale to the masses. I'm going with 4 friends and I ended up buying 4 single seats in the Terrace section all separate from eachother because it was impossible to get anything decent if you were trying to buy more than 1 tik. ANNOYING!!!!
Hopefully some nice people that are sitting alone will switch seats so I can, at least, sit with 1 of my friends.
I used to wait in lines for tickets overnight and end up with 1st or second row seats for all my friends....ah, the 80s!!!!! -

Thu, September 20, 2007 - 7:36 PMErr...uhhh....I like the pretty colors, but not quite as much fun as philately. Uber-geekdom is this Cure concert history site. Every concert, ever, with as much detail as possible. Set lists and Robert's between songs announcements: "thank you. this is called 'jumping someone else's train'". Click on "view announcements". Here's the page for The Cure @ the I-Beam, S.F., 07/28/81. Before they came on they showed the video: "Carnage Visors" with the soundtrack at a very loud sound level.

Fri, September 21, 2007 - 2:31 AMAha. OK, I get it now. All I can say is that the LA show has been postponed until May 2008 which seems like an eternity to wait for a show I've already been waiting months for. Oh well, by the time they roll around I will have forgotten about the length of time that passed.

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Sun, October 7, 2007 - 12:48 AMTonight was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Started at 8:30PM and ended at 11:15PM, including 2 encores with very short waits between each one. Robert said: "It's fucked we can only play one more song. We have another hour to play, and we will, next year. We'll be back next year." Superb sound; I was very leery about the big stadium. Over 1/2 the concert was the "harder" stuff; excellent ! -

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Sun, October 7, 2007 - 12:16 PMWell I was at the same concert, the cure was off. Missed cords, lose licks that went nowhere.
Robert's voice did not hold up well. Them high notes just so far-out of range.
A once great dinosaur dies and lets out one last yelp.
On a scale of 1-10 I'd give them a 7 or 8....

Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Sun, October 7, 2007 - 12:36 PMI am in absolute awe over light night's set at Download. We were treated to a set full of older gems - from all over the band's catalog. Robert kept apologizing, since they've been in the studio and not touring - I think he felt a bit out of sorts. I felt like this was an amazing show - they played for over 2 1/2 hours and honestly enjoyed it more than Curiosa. We were treated to tons of older stuff - particularly many tracks from kiss me, kiss me, kiss me and 3 imaginary boys. I'm still floating on the high. -
-
Re: The Cure 2007 USA tour
Sun, October 7, 2007 - 9:19 PMSorry to hear you didn't enjoy the concert, Art. I might consider splurging next time for the lower area near the stage. I was in the 3rd row of the second seated section. It looked like the people in the lower seats were dancing more.
